EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

I dipped my toes in all sorts of content creation during my time at university, including television, radio and digital news. But it was my passion for writing and the power of a story that led me to follow a career in writing.

In my last year at uni, I wrote a story titled Today's Solution and Tomorrow's Problem, which discussed the difficult situation in the ACT regarding the need for more housing in conjunction with its constant bushfire risk. The article was written for my final project, with the goal of it being good enough for publishing in The Canberra Times. A few days after my last assignment, I woke up to find the story had been published on the front page of a Sunday edition, and my story had a double-page spread inside. A few weeks later, it also won Best Text-Based Story for an Undergraduate Student at the 2022 Ossie Awards, issued by the Journalism Education & Research Association of Australia.

My passion for informing the community only grew as when I then started a job at Allhomes, Canberra's leading property portal, as their single in-house journalist. Here, I wrote article from comprehensive research reports,  breaking news on suburb record-breaking sales, as well as feature articles on beautiful homes or those with interesting stories. This job also led me to a position at Domain, where I wrote advice and living content on a more broader national scale, including content on The Block.

The topics I wrote about grew as I worked at The Canberra Times, but largely consisted of investigative feature stories about local issues facing the ACT community. This included upset from development applications, local fun stories about interesting Canberrans, and also breaking news with fast turn arounds and and growing information. My admiration for informing the community about topics they may not otherwise know about in a digestible way skyrocketed all throughout my experience so far.
